Description
Botanical Garden Kerkrade is located within the built-up area of Kerkrade. The NVBT describes it as the only botanical garden in Limburg affiliated with the association.
History
The garden was laid out in 1937 on the estate around a church to teach miners about trees and plants. Garden architect John Bergmans designed an English landscape garden with broad sightlines.
Nature & Design
After the closure of the State Mines the garden declined, but in the 1970s its cultural-historical value was recognised. It is now a national monument with a pond, rock garden and conifer collection.
Visitor Information
The address is St. Hubertuslaan 74 in Kerkrade. The NVBT notes that the garden is closed at weekends in winter. Check the garden website for current hours, admission and tours.
