Description
Domies Toen lies beside the fifteenth-century Petruskerk in Pieterburen. Its name refers to the minister's garden: a former parsonage garden now serving as botanical garden and registered museum.
History
Where the parsonage once stood with ornamental and kitchen garden, there is now a special plant collection. The website says the minister once taught farmers botany here; the current garden continues that role.
Nature & Design
The garden includes a winding garden with an old copper beech, stinzen plants, native plants in a marl valley, herbs, a butterfly and insect garden, borders, hay meadows and habitat bowls.
Visitor Information
The address is Hoofdstraat 76 in Pieterburen. The website says the botanical garden is open all year and lists an admission price. Parking is near the former seal centre.
Good to Know
Domies Toen is a member of the Dutch Association of Botanical Gardens and a Hortus Botanic Guardian. Its scale and setting make it feel more hidden and intimate than many larger hortuses.
