Description
Historische Tuin Aalsmeer is a living museum about Aalsmeer horticulture. The grounds show crops, glasshouses, tools and growing methods linked to the town's development as a flower and plant centre.
History
The NVBT describes an overview of horticulture from about 1650 to 1940. The garden's own website uses about 1700 to 1960 and shows fruit, trees, strawberries, shrubs, roses, cut flowers and pot plants in sequence.
Nature & Design
The route passes historic crops, a shaped box garden, mixed cultivation, rose glasshouses, outdoor planting and former growers' buildings. Historic greenhouses, practical tools and equipment are also displayed.
Visitor Information
The garden is at Praamplein 1 in Aalsmeer. According to its website it opens seasonally from April through October, Tuesday to Sunday. Check current hours and admission before visiting.
Good to Know
A notable feature is the original Jugendstil auction clock from 1930 in the auction building. Tours, group visits and education make this a strong hidden green heritage location.
