Description
De Proef comprises eight hectares of historic gardens around the former horticultural school of Frederiksoord.
History
Its first teaching garden was established in 1884. The grounds developed into a well-documented arboretum with monumental avenues and a productive trial garden.
Nature & Design
Hundreds of tree species have been inventoried and mapped individually. The trial garden also supplies fresh produce to the on-site Proeflokaal.
Visitor Information
The gardens are free daily. Main paths accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs, and dogs are welcome on a lead.
Fun Facts
The oldest registered tree is about 146 years old, and almost every tree on the campus has been recorded separately.
