Description
The Oude Hortus is the former botanical garden of Utrecht University on Lange Nieuwstraat. It is a surprising historic garden in the city centre.
History
Its history starts in 1639 at Sonnenborgh. In 1723 the Hortus Botanicus was established between Lange Nieuwstraat and Nieuwegracht. After the Second World War the university gardens largely moved to De Uithof.
Nature & Design
The garden contains special plants and trees, historic greenhouses and a museum story about botanical research.
Visitor Information
A visit is possible with a ticket for the University Museum Utrecht or with a separate Oude Hortus ticket.

The Oude Hortus gained a second life through the University Museum and the Friends of the Oude Hortus.
