Description
The Alchemist Garden lies behind the House with the Heads on Keizersgracht. It is a flower-rich reading garden where visitors can sit, read or drink coffee from spring to autumn.
History
The monumental canal house dates from 1622 and houses the Embassy of the Free Mind and Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica. The garden serves museum, library and café.
Nature & Design
Wildflowers, perennials and loose colourful planting give it a less formal character than many historic canal gardens. Seats invite visitors to stay for a while.
Visitor Information
The garden and café are accessible without a museum ticket during Embassy opening hours. Museum admission is charged; current days and times are listed on the official website.
Good to Know
The garden reflects themes of alchemy, nature and free thought found in the book collection. Visitors may also work or quietly read a book here.
