Description
Amstelpark is a large garden park between the River Amstel and Europaboulevard. A rose garden, rhododendron valley, Japanese garden, native garden, orangery and greenhouses form separate worlds.
History
The park was created for the international Floriade horticultural exhibition of 1972. Its rich plant variety and many themed gardens still reflect that origin.
Nature & Design
Roses, conifers and rhododendrons are joined by a butterfly garden, monastery garden and varied tree collections. Art pavilions, water and lawns alternate with the planting.
Visitor Information
The park opens daily from 08:00 until half an hour before sunset and is for pedestrians only. The main and southern entrances are accessible to mobility scooters.
Good to Know
Millions visited the Floriade exhibition grounds. The small train that now circles the park recalls the transport used during the horticultural exhibition.
