Description
On a grassland slope in Limburg's Gerendal lies a botanical garden of orchids and other rare plants characteristic of South Limburg.
History
The Orchid Garden has existed since 1958. It brought characteristic species of the South Limburg limestone landscape together at one accessible study site.
Nature & Design
Wild orchids and companion plants grow in conditions resembling the calcareous grasslands of the surrounding hills. Their flowering season in May and June determines the short visiting period.
Visitor Information
The garden is free daily from 1 May through 15 June. A Staatsbosbeheer guide is present and booking is unnecessary. The steep slope, steps and narrow paths make it unsuitable for visitors with physical disabilities.
Fun Facts
There is no parking at the garden. The walk from the Gerendalsweg visitor car park takes about twenty minutes.
