Description
Across from Castricum station, beyond a small bridge, lies a green urban garden combining nature, art and community activities.
History
The garden belonged to Captain Rommel, who died in 1958. After years of neglect, local residents and volunteers restored it in 1993 and 1994 as a public nature and meeting garden.
Nature & Design
A pond, marsh, waterfall, nutrient-poor grassland, reeds, woodland, herb garden, greenhouse and borders create remarkable variety.
Visitor Information
The garden is free on weekdays and normally closed at weekends and on public holidays. Event hours may differ.
Fun Facts
Its hidden entrance beside the station makes the change from platform to nature garden especially surprising.
