Description
Buitenplaats Elswout lies just north of Aerdenhout near Overveen and, according to National Park Zuid-Kennemerland, covers 85 hectares. It is a romantic estate along the inner dune edge where nature, culture and history meet.
History
Elswout was built and laid out in 1634 by Haarlem merchant Carel Molijn. Over the centuries the design changed with garden fashions: French lines and symmetry remain visible beside English-style winding paths and vistas.
Nature & Design
The estate includes water features, park woodland, historic buildings, an orangery, model farm and follies. The source mentions squirrels, roe deer, bats, pine martens, woodpeckers, buzzards and tawny owls.
