Description
DakAkker is an urban rooftop farm on the Schieblock building in central Rotterdam. Vegetables, fruit, edible flowers and herbs grow above street level.
History
The rooftop farm was created in 2012 and is regarded as one of Europe's largest open-air rooftop farms.
Nature & Design
Across about 1,000 square metres, food crops are grown and beehives are kept. The site shows how rooftops can support food production, biodiversity and water storage.
Visitor Information
DakAkker is not always freely accessible; visits mainly take place through guided tours, public moments and the rooftop restaurant.
