Description
Huis te Vraag is a former cemetery that has grown into a dense, almost wild graveyard garden. Trees, ivy, narrow paths and weathered gravestones create an atmosphere far removed from the surrounding city.
History
The cemetery is no longer used for new burials. Its last resident, artist Leon van der Heijden, helped give the grounds the character of an artist's garden.
Nature & Design
Spontaneous vegetation, old trees, ivy and dead wood provide habitat for many plants and animals. Cultural history, ecology and art are managed together.
Visitor Information
Visits are possible from Tuesday to Friday, with earlier closing in winter. Paths are narrow and unpaved and therefore unsuitable for wheelchairs. There is normally no visitor toilet.
Good to Know
The name Huis te Vraag predates the cemetery. Today this green necropolis is also used for small-scale art, research and nature education.
