Description
De Zomp is hidden in Oosterbeek's Zweiersdal valley. Several habitats meet within roughly 2,500 square metres around a pond and the source of the Zuiderbeek stream.
History
De Zomp opened as a native-plant garden in 1982. When the municipality could no longer provide intensive maintenance in 1996, IVN and local residents took over the smaller management tasks.
Nature & layout
The wet spring environment, pond, banks and woodland support varied plant life. Work follows a management plan, while major maintenance remains the responsibility of Renkum municipality.
Visitor information
The garden is freely accessible during daylight from 15 March to 1 November. Its paths can be slippery or muddy because of the wet setting.
Did you know?
The Dutch word 'zomp' refers to marshy ground, a fitting name for this spring-fed garden.
