Description

In the north-west corner of Groningen's Stadspark lies a roughly three-hectare native garden with woodland, clearings and water.

History

The site became a botanical garden in 1970. After major intervention in 1999, work began in 2001 to transform it into today's ecological, species-rich garden.

Nature & Design

About half is semi-natural woodland. A spring-fed pond with broad banks is the main habitat, while manual management preserves flowers and biodiversity.

Visitor Information

The garden is always free. Dogs must be on a lead, and guided tours can be arranged.

Fun Facts

Volunteers adapt the management each year to the vegetation and soil instead of following a fixed mechanical routine.
