Description
A native garden surrounds the 'n Witten information farmhouse at De Borkeld recreation area and connects directly with the Twente landscape. Its planting forms a natural gateway to woodland, heath and walking routes.
History
IVN Rijssen-Enter volunteers maintain the garden during the growing season. The 'n Witten farmhouse houses an exhibition about the origins and history of De Borkeld nature reserve.
Nature & layout
Behind the farmhouse is a stone garden containing erratic boulders deposited here during the last ice age. Flower-rich planting around the building feeds insects and presents regional species at close range.
Visitor information
The garden and recreation grounds are free to enter. The information farmhouse opens on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 May to 30 October. Volunteers work on seasonal Wednesdays from 9.30 a.m. to noon.
