Description
Notoarestoen is a two-hectare arboretum on the edge of Eenrum. The park-like garden combines an international collection of trees and shrubs with ponds, winding paths and peaceful ground planting.
History
Former notary C.N. Smit began creating his tree garden here in 1968 on bare Groningen clay. After his death, a foundation and volunteers continued its care.
Collection & layout
The collection includes hundreds of exotic trees and an extensive range of rhododendrons. Notable plants are labelled and accompanied by information panels. A broad asphalt path makes an important part of the garden accessible to wheelchair and rollator users.
Visitor information
The garden is open daily from sunrise to sunset and admission is free. The garden house opens only for tours, volunteer mornings and the annual Fragrance and Colour Days.
