Description
Park Frankendael is a green country estate in Amsterdam's Watergraafsmeer district. Around Huize Frankendael are a romantic ornamental garden, a native-plant garden, water and quiet paths.
History
The grounds first served as a country retreat for wealthy Amsterdam residents and were later used as a municipal nursery. Both periods remain visible in the house, gardens and park layout.
Nature & Design
Visitors find a native-plant garden, bird marsh, amphibian pond, old trees, a ruin, school gardens and the symmetrical formal garden behind the house.
Visitor Information
The park is open daily. Gates at Nobelweg close earlier in winter than in summer; check the municipal website for current information before visiting.
Good to Know
Frankendael is the only surviving historic country estate in the Watergraafsmeer. Its formal garden and nature-rich sections make for a varied walk.
