Description
The Abraham Ledeboerpark contains a native-plant garden devoted to species that occur naturally in the Netherlands. Several habitats have been created so that different plant communities can find suitable growing conditions.
History
IVN Enschede was involved in establishing the garden. Volunteers maintain it from the historic Lammerinkswönner farmhouse, with the working season usually starting in March.
Nature & layout
Variation in soil, moisture and shelter presents several Dutch plant communities. Weeding and pruning are carried out selectively to preserve the character of each habitat.
Visitor information
The garden can be visited through the freely accessible Ledeboerpark. The park opens from sunrise to sunset, and dogs must be kept on a lead.
Did you know?
From March onward volunteers generally work on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and noon. Their base is the Lammerinkswönner, a traditional Twente farmhouse moved here from Usselo.
