Description
The IVN native-plant garden in Nieuwkoop presents several landscapes of the South Holland peat-meadow region across roughly one hectare. It is rich in spring-flowering estate plants, wildflowers and small landscape features.
History
The oldest section was created in 1982 and covered about 3,500 square metres. It was expanded to approximately 10,000 square metres in 1999.
Nature & layout
Features include a flower meadow, pond, nutrient-poor peat, sand dike, peat-strip field, willow coppice, traditional orchard, apiary and reed-bed filter. Thousands of spring flowers bloom early in the year.
Visitor information
The garden is open daily and free of charge between sunrise and sunset. Some plants are labelled and group tours are available.
