IVN Vlindertuin Norg

Description

Behind Café Zwaneveld in Norg is a compact garden for butterflies, bees, dragonflies and amphibians, established in 2005. An information board at the entrance maps the garden and helps visitors look more closely at plants and wildlife.

History

IVN Roden-Norg created the garden as a place where nature experience and education meet. Since 2022 the group has systematically recorded what grows, flowers and lives here, making changes through seasons and years visible.

Nature & layout

Features include a raised lime-rich bed with aromatic herbs, a sunny border, a pond and marsh, a woodland border with dead-hedge structures and a compost area. Bee hotels and nest boxes provide additional shelter and nesting sites.

Visitor information

The garden is always accessible. From April to November volunteers are normally present on Friday mornings and can answer questions about planting, management and wildlife sightings.

Did you know?

The pond contains plants such as water lily, bogbean, marsh cinquefoil, water soldier and yellow iris. Sunny beds, water and a shaded woodland edge bring many different groups of animals together in a small area.
