Description
At Heiveld in Bunde is a public butterfly garden where visitors can study the needs of butterflies and other insects at close range. It lies centrally in the village, near Bunde station and the Bunderbos woodland.
History
The garden was created in 2017 by Stichting The Butterfly House. IVN Meerssen took it over on 16 May 2024; paths were restored, plants inventoried and a pond added during 2024 and 2025.
Nature & layout
Its design focuses on nectar, caterpillar food plants, shelter and varied vegetation. The new pond adds an aquatic habitat that attracts amphibians and dragonflies as well as insects.
Visitor information
The garden is open daily and free of charge at Heiveld 2, beside the tennis club and scouts. Bunde railway station and bus stop are nearby, making the site easy to reach without a car.
Did you know?
Its position between homes, community clubs and the Bunderbos makes the garden a green stepping stone. IVN uses it for hands-on nature activities built around observing and doing.
