Description

At the Oldenhove & Maartens-Stede care centre in Losser is a publicly accessible pick-your-own herb garden. Residents, relatives and other visitors can enjoy its scents and colours and pick a modest amount of herbs for personal use.

History

The IVN Oldenzaal-Losser herb-garden group has managed the site since 1992. Volunteers maintain the collection weekly during the growing season, replacing plants, pruning and tending the beds.

Nature & layout

About sixty species of medicinal, culinary and dye plants grow here. The collection therefore presents not only different scents and flowers, but also a wide range of traditional uses of plants.

Visitor information

The garden is freely accessible on the care-centre grounds. Picking for personal use is permitted, while visitors are expected to treat both the plants and the residents' living environment with care.

Did you know?

The garden links nature education with everyday wellbeing: residents can follow the work and visitors can meet volunteers. In 2023 the group received the Green Volunteers Prize from the province of Overijssel.
