Description

Beside IVN Haaksbergen's nature and education centre is a varied nature and herb garden. It demonstrates how a modest site can provide food, shelter and breeding places for plants and small animals.

History

For many years the site was known as a native-plant garden, before receiving the broader role of nature and herb garden. Its redesign combines regional flora with biodiversity, edible plants and practical nature education.

Nature & layout

The garden includes a butterfly garden, small crop plots, a herb corner, berry bushes, miniature heath areas and a composting corner. At the rear is a shed with beehives belonging to the De Heidebloem beekeepers' association.

Visitor information

The regular visiting time is Tuesday from 13:30 to 16:00. On other days visitors may enter when the gate is open, while guided visits can be arranged with the garden group.

Did you know?

Volunteers sow, harvest, mow and prune, and can explain how to make compost at home. Herbs, fruit, heathland and beehives together form a compact showcase of wildlife-friendly gardening.
