Vlinder- en insectentuin Riethoven

Description

On the edge of Riethoven is a freely accessible garden designed especially for butterflies and other insects. Flowering vegetation, a pond, trees and quiet seating make it a small but rewarding place for nature observation.

History

The garden was created in 1997 by Riethoven's former IVN youth group. Until summer 2025 the maintenance team operated as an IVN working group; the garden and volunteer team then continued independently.

Nature & layout

For much of the year the planting supplies nectar and pollen. The pond and varied vegetation also support other small animals, while benches give visitors a place for patient observation.

Visitor information

The garden is on Stevertsebaan near Bisschop Rythoviusdreef and can be visited free of charge at any time. Paths are wheelchair-friendly; the maintenance team is generally present on Saturdays from 11:00.

Did you know?

The end of the formal IVN link in 2025 did not close the garden. Volunteers continued its care and visitors remained welcome, keeping a local youth initiative dating from 1997 alive.
